Hi Guys – Just bought your Flashlight theme – very nice work.
I am relatively new to WP so bear with my “simple” questions – please go to my site http://www.ciambra.com to see:
1. How do I get rid of the search box on top right of homepage?
2. My background images look very dull – originals are much brighter and colors pop. My current image size is 800X1600 & resolution is 300 pixels/inch. What can I do to improve image quality back to original color pop?
3. While the site is under construction, I want to keep Home with Content Area “Under Construction” but once site is finished, I want to change to Home Without Content – how do I do that?
My thanks for your help>

Sorted out myself – no need to proceed.
Hopefully the support for harder issues will be quicker than the deafening silence I just experienced!May 10, 2012 at 6:13 pm #74648
Sorry about that! Glad you were able to sort them out. We are getting a very unusually large amount of support requests right now (actually for about a week now) and its putting our response time a little longer than we’d like.
Our Queue system goes oldest response to newest as well so each time you self respond it pushes the topic to the back of the line basically.
Let us know if you have any other issues and we’ll be little bit more on top of things : )

Hi Didier or support… I have the same problem with the Flashlight theme – my original photos are really high quality, sharp with vibrant colours but when i upload them they become dull and flat losing their impact.
I wonder if you would mind sharing how you solved the problem?!

I’m not sure what he might have done to improve the quality, but one of the difficulties when using the big background images is that they stretch based on the screen size. So a little bit of stretching can cause them to lose just a bit of their impact.
I’ll often time over saturate an image in photoshop before putting it online just for that reason but its a personal taste and tends to make some photographers very grumpy.
There is also a 10% quality reduction done by wordpress for images that get uploaded through the wordpress image uploading function. You would need to change the core wordpress files to change that as well.
I believe its the “function image_resize” in the wp-includes>media.php. A quick google search should bring up some tutorials/guides on how to change this and the effects of it.
