    Hi there,

    I want to create a banner and some other pictures with separate images like the logo picture.

    How can i manage that? (I dont want to put a background picture for the banner, because at different screen resolutions, its not gonna stay in the center)

    Thank you,

    Danny

    Hi Danny,

    I’m not quite clear on what you want. In general, background images can be set to center, align to the top etc and that goes across all browsers/resolutions.

    If you can provide an example or screenshot we can see if its something we can assist with.

    Regards,

    Devin

    Hi Devin,

    First of all sorry for my english. :)

    So i did some changes on the site. And i realised i cant create a banner to the top. Because i cant put a separate picture in the site.

    The only separate picture what i can move and change its size its the logo.

    So i want to do the same thing with a banner picture.

    If its still not clear, than im sorry. when im gonna have some time im gonna take some screenshots.

    Best Regards,

    Danny

    The default styling puts a big background banner image which also creates the navigation bars and main header. So you could just replace that if you wanted to in your css folder’s style1.css file or whatever style you are using. For example, in the demo its this:

    body {
    background: #fff url(../images/skin1/bg.png) repeat-x 0 0;
    color: #666;
    }

    Which uses this image: http://www.kriesi.at/themes/newscast/wp-content/themes/newscast/images/skin1/bg.png

    Hi Devin,

    Thanks for the fast replies.

    Yes exactly that is my problem. I want the banner picture there, just not with the background styling.

    I want it as a separate picture like the site logo. What i can move anywhere on the site.

    Thx,

    Danny

    Hi,

    I believe I understand what you mean. What you need is an image editing program. There are many. A professional one is Photoshop, but expensive. There is a free one, if you are using Windows, click Start > All Programs > Accessories > Paint (c:windowssystem32mspaint.exe). It saves in .png format usable in your theme. I suggest you look for images on images.google.com … search for ‘website backgrounds’ then change settings as shown in this image http://i.imgur.com/yLvz91N.png and you can search for specific sizes of images. then save the image and use program to edit. Good luck. I suggest you also use Google to find a tutorial on how to make different effects.

    Thanks,

    Nick

    Hi Nick,

    Thx for your kind reply. :) The only reason why we dont understand each other really well, beacuse of my english. sorry :)

    So

    style1.css has this code:

    #top .logobg a{background: transparent url(../images/skin1/logo.png) no-repeat left top;}

    style.css has these codes:

    #top .logo, #top .logo a{

    display:block;

    height:70px;

    width:250px;

    position:absolute;

    left:20px;

    top:13px;

    border: none;

    padding: 0;

    margin:0;

    z-index: 10;

    }

    #top .logo a{

    top:23px;

    left:0;

    outline:none;

    border: none;

    }

    #top .logo a img{

    border: none;

    }

    #top .logobg a {

    text-indent:-9999px;

    }

    It means the website logo has gonna be separate. i think. so i can change it, resize it anything.

    And i wanna do the same thing with the banner. i tried to duplicate these codes with different name, but it never worked.

    (i know i can put the banner in the bg, but i dont want to do that)

    What should i do? i hope it can be done. :)

    Thanks,

    Danny

    Hi Danny,

    Your question then is too abstract. If you give a link to an image and show where you want to place it, I can show you how to do it. However, what you are asking required years of studying very thick books late into the night, while memorizing machine languages, until my eyes glowed from monitor radiation and then … I discovered Google Chrome Developer Tools, that build CSS for you almost, with no need to know any CSS, and these tools are built into Chrome and let you change CSS without need to know CSS.

    The code you pasted means little. Let me show you how everybody writes CSS (except Kriesi, he writes in machine language). :)

    1) Go download chrome developer tools. And watch the video I just made for you, and that is how you do what you want.

    https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B8hqGBMSfHtKdms0Y3NhVlZvQnc/edit?usp=sharing

    Watch till end and you will see I copy the new CSS and then I add it to the end of the CSS file of the theme.

    Thanks,

    Nick

    Hi Nick,

    Thx for this. Thx for your time. :) Nice Tutorial.

    Im doing the same thing with firefox and firebug. Maybe im gonna try Chrome Developer Tools too.

    I already know these things.

    Maybe we cant do what i want. Maybe it cant be done, casue of the way how the theme is scripting.

    Never mind. Im gonna use the bg for the banner picture. If i cant do anything else about it.

    Regards,

    Danny
