    Hi guys,
Is it possible to create a Featured Image from a URL rather than upload and store a local copy?
I am wishing to re-blog articles from Newspapers and the media. Some of the images on their posts are Copyright so I don’t think they would like me to copy them, but I think it would be ok to Link to them (as Facebook does).
Is this possible or would this be an enhancement request?
    Thanks.

    Hey Heathcliffe!

Not that I know of no. I also don’t think it would protect you from copyright issues either but that isn’t really anything we have much expertise on.

    Best regards,
    Devin

    Thanks Devin,
I have used vBulletin in the past and that was one of their features. Some of the ways of displaying blog information is really inconsistent if some have images and some don’t. Perhaps I will have to create my own images for certain categories.

Its really just in the way the images need to be rendered and used for any of the theme features. To get the best performance for users and the site they should be local. With the featured images specifically that is a WordPress function itself and you can read about it here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Post_Thumbnails
