I'm using newscast and I'm interested in the following:
1. Is there a way to remove the featured image from the top of posts? I want to use them for the slider, but the thumbnail that appears at the top of the posts is just terrible
2. Is it possible to add a background image? (as opposed to color)
3. Is it possible to have certain categories of posts that are full width (i.e. occupying the sidebar space, just like a page using the full-width template)

These are the answers to your inquiries.
1.) You can open functions.php to change how the thumbnails are being regenerated. Find this code
$k_option['custom']['imgSize']['M'] = array('width'=>180, 'height'=>180); // big preview pic for full sized posts
2,) You can change the background by applying the css on one of the four css skins located on your css folder.
#headwrap, #footerwrap, #content-wrap, #main {
background: white;
}
body {
background: red;
}The body background will define the new background.
3.) I am not really sure if understand No. 3 question but as far as I know you can create a new template and use conditionals for categories.
