If you have troubles since the update to WordPress 4.5 please read this post before opening a new thread.
I’d like to show a selection of my best work on my home page. To do this I can create a “selected” category and then only display those on the home page portfolio.
Then, I’d like to create a portfio archive. Ideally I would show the categories at the top (2012, 2011, 2010 etc) but if I did that I’d have to show every year to begin with which could mean slowing the page down by showing lots of images all at once. Also this would show the “selected” category which isn’t ideal.
Is is possible to show the categories at the top, but only show a certain category at once? So perhaps show 2012 to begin with? Could I then hide the “selected” category from the category list?
Or is there another way to do this? I considered creating a page for each year and adding a seperate portfolio for each but I don’t really want all those pages in my menu. Perhaps I could add links to each page at the top but it doesn’t feel right. Any suggestions/ideas?
I’m not sure there is any other way to do what you are describing besides adding year categories to your portfolio items and then displaying them in individual pages based on the year.
You could add a ‘Archives’ link to your main navigation with a drop down with each year under it so it doesn’t overly clutter your main nav.
