    Hey folks,
    Can anyone advise if there’s any disadvantage from a compatibility issue of using a background plugin as opposed to a slider, for the same look?

    If you go to the homepage of http://www.vantasks.ie, my brother has replaced the slider, with a background image.
    If you go to http://www.vantasks.ie/contact you’ll see the slider that was in place.

    Differences I note so far:
    You can’t position items in the background image beyond the page width, so the Get quote now box I have on the homepage is at it’s left most and begins where the logo above begins, where as with the contact us slider, you’ll see the “Prices from” image is way over to the left and then the email and number elements slide in from left and right too.

    You can’t seem to put a youtube video in the slider options, but you can in the background plugin options. I’ve a tester background sample and the bottom of the contact us page, but I can’t see any way to reposition the video so the vans are in view. I guess I need to use a different video that loops in the right place (the current one fades to black), but if there’s a way to specify loop point this would be easier I guess :)

    Anyway, I’m just wondering, is there any other things to take into consideration when deciding to use a background plugin over the slider plugin such as not as many devices and screen resolutions being able to properly display one over the other, or SEO advantages or anything else to consider?

    Any feedback would be great :)

    Hi cormie!

    please stick to theme related issues/questions only. Not sure what you want to achieve or change. Can you explain further please? Your slider and/or background image seems to work fine for me.

    Regards,
    Andy

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply, Sorry, I should have been more clear, when I say plugins, I mean the options in the Enfold theme itself.

    Please see the following image: http://i.imgur.com/ColEOXx.jpg

    The method on the homepage edit options (background) and the method on the contact page (slider), produce almost identical results other than what I mentioned above from what I can see,

    Most of the site is using the slider option but using the background method was suggested over this, and is currently in use ONLY on the homepage.

    I’m just wondering, given the purpose behind the enfold slider option is to produce these kinds of placements on the page, is there any other issues that may not be so apparent with using the background option instead of the slider option? I was told it’s a smaller plugin than the slider one so will load quicker etc for visitors.

    I’m then also wondering about the inclusion of video in either option too :)

    Any further help would be great!

    Hi!

    yes LayerSlider usually needs more performance, but you have much more freedom with it. Not sure what you mean with plugin though, as in your screenshot you are using the normal theme functions. You can include video too.

    Please let us know if you have any issues with the theme and we are happy to assist you.

    Best regards,
    Andy

    Hey!

    was told it’s a smaller plugin than the slider one so will load quicker etc for visitors.

    That’s correct, Enfold’s Color Section uses fewer resources than LayerSlider, i’d suggest that if you’re not going to use LayerSlider at its full potential (individual layers, custom animations, etc) it would be best to go with a Color Section.

    Cheers!

    Sorry, maybe plugin isn’t the correct term, yes all functions I’m talking about are just options in Enfold and nothing is a third party plugin.

    So Color Section won’t pose any issues with compatibility of different devices/resolutions etc and won’t have any negative impact on SEO etc where layer slider may have been better?

    Sorry, I’m not too familiar with all this, I’m just the site owner, not a developer :)

    Would anyone know how to change the video section I have on the /contact page to a different position so you can see the vans in the section?

    Thanks a lot for the help so far :)

    Hey!

    Add this in the Quick CSS field:

    .page-id-3709 .mejs-mediaelement iframe {
        margin-top: -100px;
    }

    It will move the video frame upwards.

    Hey Ismael,
    Thanks a lot for that, it worked :) I cut the video down so it doesn’t fade in/fade out on youtube, but when it loops now there’s a black frame flash instead of a continuous looking loop. I don’t suppose you’ve any ideas about that? Maybe it’s a youtube thing and not enfold though?

    Hi,

    Can you post the link to your website please?

    Hey Josue,
    The video section in question is at http://www.vantasks.ie/contact towards the bottom :)

    Hey!

    Sorry for the delay. It is actually a small glitch in the slider script that we are not able to fix yet. It might take a while before we can fix the issue. Do you have the original file of the video? Is it on mp4 format?

    Best regards,
    Ismael

    Thanks again for the reply. Yep, I have the original file, do you suggest to upload it direct to wordpress or perhaps some other method?

    #611833

    Yeah you could try using the self-hosted method instead of YouTube.

    Josue
