I got this error when trying to install through Wordpress GUI. However, I did manage to install it by placing the Theme in /themes folder.
Is there a chance that something might not have installed properly?

Hey,
no - this error indicates that wordpress had problems to write certain directories. Very likely the write permission/ftp permissions didn't allow wp to unpack the zip file, etc. By using ftp software like filezilla you can install the theme properly too.
