I’m finding that the only way to get the Twitter follower count to update in the widget is to go to the widget section of the dashboard, open the widget, then click Save. Shouldn’t it update on its own?

Yes, Twitter started to shutdown the current api on June 11 ( http://www.mediabistro.com/alltwitter/twitter-delays-api-shutdown_b41602 ) and our widget does not support the new api. Thus the widget won’t work anymore. Because the new authentication process is very complex we decided that we won’t bundle a twitter widget with the theme anymore and we removed it in v1.9.1. The next Enfold version (1.9.2) will support the Twitter Widget Pro: http://wordpress.org/plugins/twitter-widget-pro/ plugin instead.

Okay, thanks. I like having the Twitter and RSS icons together, as they’re the most important for me.

But you say you removed it in 1.9.1; I just bought the theme last week, and that’s the version I have, and that widget is there…

    Hi kirkmc,

**See Below. Removed to prevent any confusing :) **

Hey! The counter should actually work fine even with the new twitter widget api since it does only need to fetch an xml file that is available without api.

The widget should indeed update on its own but it has a cache meachanism included so that it doesnt check that xml file every few minutes ;)

Actually, it seems to have just broken for me. As I write this, I went to Appearance > Widgets and opened the widget, then clicked Save to see if it would update (because it’s not upadating on its own). When I loaded my blog, I saw this repeated hundreds of times in my sidebar.

Warning: simplexml_load_string() [function.simplexml-load-string]: Entity: line 45: parser error : xmlParseEntityRef: no name in /homepages/21/d298587496/htdocs/kirk/wordpress/wp-content/themes/enfold/framework/php/class-framework-widgets.php on line 651

Then, when I reloaded, the widget loaded correctly, but doesn’t show any number next to the Twitter icon. Here’s my site:

Can you try disabling your other active plugins and then removing and re-adding that widget? With 9 active plugins it could be a code conflict preventing it from properly working or something like that.

That didn’t change anything. Still no follower count. I’m not seeing the error message any more though.

I’m not sure what could be happening then. I tested it on my live install after after Kriesi said it was still valid and didn’t have any issues.

I would double check the username is correct and in place and try it for a half hour or so with no plugins running if possible.
