Using shortcodes when creating page content

Hi,
When I insert any of the shortcodes through the user interface, not only does the shortcode get generated, but code/text is generated and placed onto my page. The following is an example of choosing a two column shortcode interface. This happens for all of the interface menu. I also can see the code/text listed in the interface.

Hey Lyse,

Can you check to see if you have the most recent version of Abundance theme (version 1.2.1).

If you have any additional plugins running (outside of WooCommerce 1.4+) try disabling them and see if the issue goes away. If it does, you can re-enable the plugins one by one to nail down which one is causing the issue.

Hi Devin,

I did as you recommended and there is a FAQ Builder plugin that is causing errors once I activate it. Any suggestions?

Hey,
It seems to be a js conflict (because the shortcode generator is a tinymce plugin). Please use another plugin or write the shortcode manually. Here's the complete list (not all variations though):

Hi,

Inserting shortcodes has stopped working. I deactivated all of my plugins but could not get it to work.I don't get any error message.

Hi Lyse,

Just checked your site and you still have 4-5 plugins active. Not sure if you turned them off then back on.

I created a test page and the shortcodes are still functioning so it most likely is a plugin issue.

Hi Devin,

I did turn off all of the plugins and ran a test adding shortcodes. There was no change. So I reactivated all of the plugins I need.

Any other suggestions on what to look for that may be causing this issue.

Hi Lyse,

You can try re-installing the theme in case one of the files didn't get uploaded correctly. Its a possibility though not always likely.

If you have made any changes to the core theme files, make sure to back up those pages/files so that you can re add them.

Hi Devin,

I did not make changes to the core theme files but did make changes to some of the pages layouts such as the Shop. A question I have, will I loose my dynamic templates and styling?

I have reinstalled the Abundance theme twice. No change. I deactivated all of plugins again. No change.What shall we try next?

Hi Lyse,

I'm not able to actually reproduce the issue to diagnose what is causing it. With a new installation of Wordpress, Abundance and WooCommerce, the additons to the visual editor will work without issue. I can really only imagine that a plugin is causing the conflict.

I would recommend to maybe setup a quick dummy blog and test if it works, and if it does restarting from scratch might be the way to go. If it doesnt finding another solution might be smarter since you wouldn't lose all your data

Hi Kriesi,

I have installed a new WordPress in a completely different folder on my website domain. I have downloaded the Abundance theme, installed it, and activated it. I try to use the shortcodes on the sample page - no plugins installed or activated at this point. The shortcoldes don't work except for the HR ones. Weird isn't it? What do you suspect may be the problem at this point, my server permission are USER read, write, etc..? This is becoming so frustrating at this time because I am just about ready to launch, but would like this to work!

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Lyse,

Its hard to say. It sounds like an issue with the host but I really have a hard time thinking of what on the server could cause the javascript issues you are running into. You can try changing the folder permissions to read,write and execute for all temporarily just to test out the folder permissions but again, I'm not sure if that would have any effect.

If you are uploading the theme with a zip file, try uploading the unzipped full theme via FTP and vice versa if that is the way you are currently doing it.

I see on Kriesi's Twitter that version 1.3 is available. This version is not available on Theme Forest because I get the older one when I download from there. Please, where can I urgently get v1.3? I think this may fix my problem....

Found it. Installed and activated the latest version. Deactivated all my plugins. No change, problem remains. I'm sad...

I was thinking of buying another version of the theme for another client, with much larger number of products, but I think I'll have to look for another solution.

Let me know if a solution is found.

I'm sorry its not working out for you. I really can't understand why only shortcodes are not working on your installations. If it was a widespread issue we might be able to identify a cause but so far I've only encountered your site where it continues to happen without a plugin being the cause.

There is another report under topic: blank window on shortcodes generator, that has been reported and sound similar to my issue.

I'm registered in a WordPress Bootcamp so discussed this issue with my WordPress mentor. I'd like to share with you the feedback I received about this issue.

"In all the years I've worked with Wordpress, this is the strangest and most puzzling issue I have come across... with a premium theme like this, especially, I would expect the developer to provide adequate support.

The only possible problem I can think of is a conflict of some sort... When I look at the code, there is a placeholder for the content of that box, but the javascript is not generating the content. The support forums say that you could just manually enter shortcodes, but where is the documentation for that? I'm having a very hard time finding any documentation at all... very frustrating...

So I guess all you can do at this point is contact the developer. If he won't resolve the issue, he should give you some sort of refund or provide a workaround of some sort. "

Is there anything Kriesi can do to fix this issue? I love the theme and would like to use it!

Would much appreciate a fix.

Hey Lyse,

Thank you for sharing the response. Its definitely a difficult issue to tackle. None of us has been able to replicate it either which makes it even more difficult to figure out. The only step in which we are not a part of is installation and server management which leads my guess as to something being the cause there. When you install, do you upload the unzipped file via ftp or do you use the wordpress zip uploader? Whichever you are currently doing, I would try doing it the other way to see if this effects the issue.

As always, you can request a refund from Themeforest as they handle the transactions for the theme.

We have been trying to find a fix and workaround for you as well and there isn't anything that has been held back until now that would immediately solve the issue.

Hi Devin,

I'm not giving up yet! I have been using the WordPress zip uploader. I will try the uploading from my FTP to see if I get different results. Is there anything on the server side that could be causing this issue? Anything I can ask my host that you can think of. I'm willing to give you temporary access to my server if you think you could help or see anything that could cause this issue.

I have installed and activated Abundance on my localhost. All works fine! I have open a ticket with my host to help me resolve this issue.

Hi Devin,

Here's the response I got: "Unfortunately we are unable to provide support for third party applications. It is possible that it is a setting on our server causing the problem but there are infinite possible settings that it is impossible to try them all to see if it works. If you or your theme developer can determine what settings need to be adjusted we may be able to adjust them for you."

In a sense I understand that my host would need some idea of what setting to adjust. Any thoughts on which one(s) could be the culprit? Do you know of any debugging tool that could identify some kind of error code?
