I was wondering if there was anyway to make a stock video play in the slider when the homepage loads. I know you can play in portfolio but I want it to autoplay in slider.

Yes that's possible with .flv files. Go to slider entries > Add New. Name the new slider entry as you like (choose an description etc.). Under
"Optional URL URL the Slide gets linked to"choose "Link manually" and enter the url to your flv video in the field which appears under the drop down list.
i.e. like:
http://www.kriesi.at/themes/cleancut/files/2010/06/cloud.flvSave the entry and your video should appear in the slider...
