If you have troubles since the update to WordPress 4.5 please read this post before opening a new thread.
I’m trying to create a simple portfolio, a grid of images that when clicked either launch a video by lightbox or via ajax. I cannot figure how to add the equivalent of a featured image to the portfolio items and as a result, each thumbnail on the portfolio page is a mini embedded video rather than an thumbnail image I can choose.
Once you’ve added the video using the featured media meta box option, there should be a little film icon to the left for the item. Click on that icon and an image dialog box will open for you to choose the thumbnail.
Additionally, you can just add an image to the portfolo’s featured media and then when you are looking at the options for that image use the dropdown under ‘Apply link ‘ to select ‘manual’. Then put the url to the video if its youtube or vimeo into that url field.
With either of those options, it inserts the image correctly as the thumb preview but when clicked, rather than load the video above, it loads the preview image, stretched large, and I have to click the ‘next’ arrow to see the video.
Any ideas as how to just load it as the thumbnail preview image and just have the video as the target?
