The Habitat theme is a little like the Avisio theme which I really like...there's not much difference in fact.
What else can I do with this though? Can I do anything else with the homepage like have some multiple columns underneath the slider or just put basic text or is it limited only to the slider and blog entries?
You can use static pages as homepages so i.e you can have multiple columns under your slider. You can directly embed flash videos in your portfolio (without prettyphoto) and you've some integrated soicial network plugins.
Overall Habitat is a better blogging theme than Avisio - the option to create slideshows by uploading multiple featured images is awesome. I'm going to use Habitat on my website soon.
