Experiencing problems trying to customise Newscast. Hopefully some or all of these can be resolved here on the forum. I also have some questions. Here we go:
1. Mainpage Images
– Post thumbnail (180 x 180 post listing thumb): not showing, just the preloading gif
– Accordion Slider also displays preloading gif (we have ensured images are the correct width) for each item
2. Accordion Slider
Sometimes, the Accordion slider doesn’t load at all/takes several refreshes to load.
Can we have one to the right of the logo? If so, how can we place it? We know we can achieve this in an image but would rather give our client the SEO advantages of text
4. Child Theme friendly?
We’d like to put changes and customisations into a child theme to avoid major hassle and wasted time every time there is a theme update. is there any reason why we shouldn’t be able to do this with Newscast?
5. Image Opacity Weirdness (with even weirder side effects!)
We’re trying to drop a newsletter signup form into the sidebar (Aweber HTML form, but w/customisation). This includes an image of a book which, when previewed, is invisible (but selectable). The problem appears to be the forcing of an opacity=0 value by what appears to be a JS process, when viewed in Dev tools:
– When we try to apply the styling directly to the image element it appears to be overridden by ‘JSActive’. When we change the image value from ‘hidden’ to ‘visible’ – not only do all the thumbs missing on Question 1 suddenly appear (!!!), but the *accordion slider* then disappears altogether – go figure!!!
Hoping you can help us resolve these issues – these apart, it’s a stunning theme that will really do justice to my client’s great content.
Cheers!June 12, 2012 at 4:29 am #78113
Can you post a link to your site? so we can check the issues further.

Did you/anyone get the opportunity to take a look at the site and address my questions/issues?
ThanksJune 19, 2012 at 7:43 pm #78116
As for a child theme, there shouldn’t be any issues with it.
For the logo tagline, open up header.php and look for:
<h2 class="logo ie6fix <?php echo $logoclass; ?>"><a href="<?php echo get_settings('home'); ?>/"><?php echo $logo; ?></a></h2>
You can hardcode in the logo and tagline using plain html and style the additional tagline by replacing the php calls for to the logo and keeping the same structure. So something like:
<h2 class="logo ie6fix "><a href="http://be-lucid.com/banskoblog/"><img class="ie6fix" src="http://be-lucid.com/banskoblog/wp-content/uploads/2012/06/BanskoBlog_logo.jpg" alt="http://be-lucid.com/banskoblog" /></a></h2>
<div class="tagline"><h3>this is our tagline</h3></div>

Thank you for the answers and the code ideas for the tagline, Devin
Will follow your advice and report back!June 20, 2012 at 11:34 am #78118
Have done as you suggested, but also ‘re-based’ the project by updating all out-of-date plugins and updating to WP 3.4, to eliminate any possible update-related issues.
I have disabled all plugins and the site is still misbehaving in much the same way. :(

I’m becoming a little impatient now. After spending good money on this theme, it is clearly not working for me and it appears to be OK to be left to wait a day or so while my client is getting anxious.
I have deactivated all plugins, reinstalled the theme and STILL Newscast doesn’t display images properly – either in the slider OR in post lists.
I am becoming hypnotised by the bloody ‘image loading’ GIF.
It’s time to insist on some help. Paying customers surely deserve more attentive support than this.
Thank you.June 21, 2012 at 5:23 pm #78120
I understand the frustration but it appears there are still some scripts throwing up errors which is likely leading to the issues you are having. Specifically there are a couple of scripts that are failing to load from “widgetcontents.com”.
The correct site you are working with is: http://be-lucid.com/banskoblog/ ?

I think I’ve isolated the script that is causing the problem. I’m not very comfortable sharing my client’s code in a public space, so I wonder whether you could let me know where i can send it, for someone to take a look?
Many thanks in advanceJune 28, 2012 at 4:31 pm #78123
I’m not quite sure I understand. Is there a conflict with code you have added with a plugin or customization? If so, you should be able to just de-active/remove it and the theme should then work without issue.

No thats right – you don’t understand.
It’s an essential piece of code for my client’s business – and one that works in his existing theme, but not yours. But don’t worry – we’ll resolve the issue without you. However, I doubt that we’ll be back after this theme.
I’ve customised several themes for several clients, but I don’t think I’ve ever encountered support quite as poor as this from a developer that claims to be at the forefront. The themes are beautiful indeed – but your customer care is lacking, to say the least.
Thanks for – well, not very much really.
