call me a fool but I just don't understand:
Why in the world do I need portfolios when I can embed (multiple) images in any post and page?
What are the advantages (if any) of a portfolio?
Why do I need portfolios? (Serious question)

Hey,
The portfolio is there to easily manage your images/portfolio items, sometimes when editing a post and embedding images things can go wrong very fast. You might publish a post where you deleted images by accident (happens to me *all* the time), this doesn't happen with portfolio pages. They're also nicely managed for you, they don't need any extra styling. That's just two of the advantages, if you prefer to embed images feel free to do so.
